Abeokuta set for BetKing 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball Tournament

The city of Abeokuta is set to come alive as the highly anticipated BetKing 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball Tournament kicks off from April 3 to 7, 2025. Athletes and dignitaries will gather at the Ijeja neighborhood for the prestigious event.

Among the top sports administrators expected to attend are the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko; the Director General of the NSC, Honourable Bukola Olopade; and the President of the Nigeria Paralympic Committee, Sunday Oyebode. Also expected is the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Elite Athletes and Podium Board, Yusuf Ali.

President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Seyi Johnson, highlighted the tournament’s core objective: discovering new talent and selecting players for the national team.

“As a board, we are intentional about maintaining a sustainable pool of talent to ensure Nigeria never lacks athletes for international competitions,” he said.

“Para sports have always been Nigeria’s area of strength at major international events, and it is crucial to sustain that momentum through regular competitions like this.”

“Our priority is qualification for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and we believe we have a strong chance when we compete in the qualifiers in South Africa later this year.”

“This is why we are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a successful 3×3 National Tournament at the Lake Sports Centre in Ijeja, Abeokuta. We are also grateful for the strong support from the NSC,” he concluded.
