Abure-led Labour Party urges INEC to enable candidate uploads for FCT polls

By Kunle Sanni –

The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant it access to upload the credentials of its candidates for the forthcoming Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections.

The appeal was made during INEC’s quarterly consultative meeting with leaders of registered political parties, held on Tuesday in Abuja. The meeting, chaired by Acting INEC Chairperson, May Agbamuche-Mbu, was her first major engagement with political parties since assuming office following the expiration of Mahmood Yakubu’s tenure.

In a statement, Obiora Ifoh, the factional National Publicity Secretary of the LP, said Abure reaffirmed the faction’s compliance with all electoral procedures, including the conduct of primaries and the submission of candidates’ lists to the commission.

“The party followed due process, issued notices to INEC, and conducted primaries. The list of candidates is already with the commission,” Ifoh quoted Abure as saying. “We therefore urge INEC to release the access code to enable us to upload our candidates and participate fully in the ongoing campaigns for the area council elections.”

Agbamuche-Mbu reportedly assured the Labour Party delegation that the commission would review the matter and consider their request for access to the candidate upload portal.

Abure also congratulated the acting INEC chairperson on her new role, expressing confidence that her legal background would strengthen institutional integrity and reinforce the commission’s commitment to the rule of law.
