Acknowledge Tinubu’s support for state projects, Kalu tells Abia government, residents

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has called on the Abia state government and South-East leaders to acknowledge President Bola Tinubu’s contributions in providing funds for state and regional projects.

Hon. Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, made the appeal during the commissioning of development projects in Aba, Abia State, on Friday. He commended Governor Alex Otti for his efforts in enhancing the state’s infrastructure and urged him to publicly recognize the federal support received.

“I am not a member of your party; I am in the APC. But development transcends political lines. Every citizen should work with their governor to ensure progress. I have always partnered with governors of my state—be it T.O. Orji, Okezie Ikpeazu, or my friend Dr. Otti. Governance is about partnership between the state and federal government,” Kalu said.

He added, “As Deputy Speaker representing the South-East, I have accompanied Mr. President to visit Enugu and Anambra, both governed by non-APC members. There is no reason I will not support the governor of my state. I have seen the projects executed by Governor Otti, and we commend his efforts.”

Kalu stressed the importance of giving credit to the President for enabling these developments, noting that funds from the removal of the oil subsidy were promptly made available to states. “It is vital that Abians know the President is supporting their governor. Recognizing this support encourages further investment and development,” he said.

The Deputy Speaker also appealed to the President, represented at the event by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, to consider establishing a seaport in the South-East to boost trade and economic activities. “The South-East is home to traders. Another port would significantly enhance regional commerce,” he added.

In addition, Kalu called on the federal government to intervene in the demolition of properties belonging to Igbo residents in Lagos State, urging authorities to allow affected individuals to regularize their documentation instead of facing destruction. “It is disheartening to see homes and offices destroyed. I appeal to Mr. President to engage with Lagos State to find a solution that protects our people while allowing them to correct documentation issues,” he said.

Kalu concluded by urging the Abia state commissioner for information and local media houses to highlight the President’s contributions. “If we acknowledge and thank the President for his support, more resources can flow to our state for development,” he said.
