Veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist, Apostle Dr Eucharia Anunobi, has opened up about her son’s death nine years after his demise, blaming it on alleged medical negligence.
The actress broke down in tears while narrating her ordeal during a podcast on Monday. She recounted how her 15-year-old son was taken to a clinic for a routine check-up in 2017 because he was living with sickle cell disorder.
Expressing her sadness, she explained that a student doctor who was supposed to transfuse blood to her son allegedly extracted three pints of his blood instead, leaving him jaundiced and in a critical condition that later led to his death.
In the emotional video, Dr Anunobi further explained that her son, Raymond, was not ill before the incident, adding that she only took him to the hospital for a routine check-up where she was advised by a doctor that he should undergo a blood transfusion to boost his health.
She recounted that the doctor later instructed a student doctor on the medical procedure while she went to get the pints of blood needed for the transfusion. According to her, upon her return, she found that her son had turned yellow due to the blood extraction allegedly carried out by the inexperienced doctor.
Speaking on the challenges she faced as a mother of a child with sickle cell disorder, Dr Anunobi said she had done her best to ensure her son stayed healthy before the incident.
She noted that she invested significant financial resources and carried out extensive research on how to manage her son’s condition before his death.
The actress blamed alleged medical negligence for her son’s death, insisting she had always been intentional about his health since learning about his condition. Her account has since sparked reactions online, with some social media users calling for the investigation of the doctors and possible legal action against the medical facility.
