Popular Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has faced criticism from the public after performing a deliverance session on a secondary school girl without her parents’ authorisation.

The actress, who has recently been in the spotlight for her newfound faith, has said she has repented and is now a born-again Christian. She often shares videos of her prayer sessions, church activities and voluntary services on social media.

During one of her outreach programmes in Abuja on Friday, Tonto posted a video on her Instagram page in which she claimed to have delivered a schoolgirl from evil manipulation and untimely death.

According to the actress, the girl approached her after the outreach and said she was being followed by bats and had satanic influences around her.

In the clips shared by Tonto, which have since gone viral online, the schoolgirl was seen pinned to the floor by two people while the actress held her head down and placed her fingers across the girl’s eyes while speaking in tongues.

The video has drawn backlash from many social media users, who criticised the actress for carrying out such an act without consulting the girl’s parents and for exposing the identity of a minor on the internet without blurring her face.

Some users also expressed concern that the girl could face stigma or ridicule from her peers, particularly at school, after being portrayed in such a manner online.

While some netizens threatened legal action if they were the girl’s parents, others praised Tonto for attempting to help the student.
