ADC 2027 ticket: Momodu tips Atiku, Amaechi, Obi as leading hopefuls
A former presidential aspirant and journalist, Aare Dele Momodu, has identified former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as leading contenders for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.
Momodu made the remarks on Thursday while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.
According to him, Atiku tops the list of potential candidates within the ADC, citing his experience at the highest level of governance.
“Today, if you ask me in ADC, there are prominent potential candidates. Number one on the list will be Alhaji Atiku Abubakar because he served as vice president for eight years. He has operated at the highest level and began contesting for the presidency as far back as 1993,” Momodu said.
He also listed Rotimi Amaechi, noting his extensive political experience at both the state and federal levels.
“The next person will be Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, governor for eight years, and minister for eight years,” he added.
Momodu further mentioned Peter Obi, highlighting his two-term tenure as governor of Anambra State.
He urged members of the ADC to set aside personal interests and unite in a coalition to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election, accusing the president of steering the country toward a one-party state.
“We need the cooperation of everybody. That is why we call it a coalition. It is not a one-man thing, and Nigeria does not recognise independent candidacy,” Momodu said.
