Adelabu declares 2027 governorship ambition, seeks APC unity in Oyo

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
Adelabu made the announcement on Friday during a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and stakeholders in the Ogbomoso and Oyo zones of the state.
Addressing party members at the residence of APC chieftain Ayoade Adeseun, the minister described the consultation as part of his preparations to return the party to power in 2027.
“I’m here to tell you that I want to contest for governor of Oyo State in 2027,” Adelabu said. “I’m ready to put to the test all the experience I’ve gathered from the past two elections.”
He appealed for unity within the party, urging aggrieved members to forgive past grievances and focus on securing victory in the next election.
Speaking in Oyo town, Adelabu promised to run an inclusive government if elected. “Nobody will be left behind. I want to show our party members that I am up to the task and capable of emerging victorious through hard work and merit.”
Adelabu was the APC governorship candidate in 2019 but lost to incumbent Governor Seyi Makinde. In 2023, after losing the APC ticket, he contested under the Accord Party but finished third.
Governor Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won re-election with 563,756 votes, defeating APC’s Teslim Folarin, who garnered 256,685 votes, while Adelabu polled 38,357 votes.
