Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved the sum of ₦3.3 billion for the payment of accrued rights (bond certificates) to retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme across the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, in a statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Thursday, noted that of the amount released by the government through the office of the Head of Service, signed by Elder Ayanleye Aina, ₦1.5 billion is allocated to retirees at the state level, including Ministries, Departments, Agencies, secondary schools, and tertiary institutions.
In addition, ₦1.8 billion is designated for those who retired from the local government service, junior staff, and primary schools across the state.
Alimi stated that the approved funds are undergoing due process at the Bureau of Public Service Pension and the Local Government Staff Pension Board and will be disbursed accordingly.
He added that this approval for retirees’ payment is separate from the regular monthly pension and gratuity payments to retired public servants under the old pension scheme across the public service.
Alimi emphasized that the welfare of workers and pensioners is a priority in Adeleke’s 5-point action plan.
According to him, “This government will not neglect its promises of welfare and development to the people, and it is evident that the Governor has been fulfilling his commitments since assuming office in November 2022, as seen in his consistent support for public servants and the entire citizens of the state.
“This government is driven by accountability and good governance, and we reaffirm that the people of the state will continue to benefit from the dividends of democracy.”
