Adeleke orders urgent repair of Iwo-Osogbo Road pending full reconstruction

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the State Ministry of Works to begin immediate spot rehabilitation on critical sections of the Iwo-Osogbo Road ahead of its planned full reconstruction.
The directive followed the worsening condition of the road’s central section, especially during the ongoing rainy season. Adeleke issued the order to mitigate the impact on commuters while the full project undergoes final procurement stages.
According to a statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the ministry has been instructed to take swift remedial action to restore smooth vehicular movement along the busy route.
The governor was briefed that parts of the road have suffered severe erosion, with deep gullies threatening to divide the road and hinder access for residents of surrounding communities.
Following the directive, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works dispatched engineers to assess the worst-hit areas. A plan for targeted repairs has been drawn up, with work scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
Adeleke assured residents of Iwo, Ayedire, Olaoluwa, Ejigbo, Egbedore, and Ede local governments that full reconstruction will be fast-tracked. The contract has been split into three lots to allow simultaneous work by three contractors, including the initial one.
The road was originally awarded under former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, with work completed only for the portion covered by released funds. The remaining part is now set for completion.
“We are at the final stage of the procurement process. Contractors will soon be mobilized to site. We are committed to due process and procurement laws. We know how vital this road is to the economic life of our people,” Adeleke said.
