Adeleke sets record straight on Iwo–Osogbo road project

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed claims that the reconstruction of the Iwo–Osogbo road was only approved after public agitation, insisting the project had been approved since January.

In a statement on Friday, the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, explained that procurement processes for the project began nearly three months ago and were only recently concluded, paving the way for contractors to receive letters of award this week.

Adeleke confirmed that all contractors have commenced mobilisation and are expected to move fully to site on Monday.

He urged the public to disregard reports suggesting he acted under pressure, describing them as false and misleading.

The statement added that the Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration, Dr. B. T. Salami, inspected the road on Thursday as part of pre-work preparations.

It stressed that the governor had demonstrated deep commitment to Iwoland through various infrastructure projects, including the ongoing dualisation of the Iwo township road.

According to the statement, the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Iwo–Osogbo road had always been a priority for the governor.

“Mr. Governor does not need any agitator or protest to do the right thing for the people of Iwoland. He has assured the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Iwo Board of Trustees, and all elders that outstanding projects will be completed within the timeline,” the statement read.
