Adeleke vows to reclaim LG system, says Osun on path of prosperity

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Thursday declared that the state would never return to what he described as the “dark past,” insisting that his administration had placed Osun on the path of prosperity and good governance.
The governor also pledged to restore the effective running of the local government system, which he said had been undermined in previous administrations.
Speaking at a homecoming rally organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its Secretariat in Osogbo, Adeleke told party faithful and residents that his government had moved the state “from pity to confidence, from poverty to prosperity, and from hopelessness to hope.”
“We have put smiles on the faces of pensioners. We have restored hope and faith of workers. We have provided water in remote areas and mechanised agriculture. We have connected villages to towns, built fresh roads and bridges, and brought light to dark corners. For our youth, we rehabilitated schools; for health, we strengthened primary care. We supported artisans with finance, empowered cooperatives, reduced tax burden, simplified C of O acquisition, and reclaimed our state’s heritage in the mining sector,” Adeleke said.
The governor also accused the opposition of attempting to hold the state down, saying their actions were driven by shock at the progress recorded by his administration.
He urged residents to mobilise for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, describing it as vital for the state’s political future and PDP’s electoral dominance.
Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, who welcomed the governor, said the opposition lacked credible candidates ahead of the 2026 governorship election, boasting that the APC would not win a single local government in the state.
Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, assured the governor of full support from Osun Central, while Senate Minority Leader, Lere Oyewumi, stressed that defections would not weaken the PDP’s strength, maintaining that Adeleke remained the popular choice of the people.
