Adeleke’s camp denies alleged presence of thugs at Government House

The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has denied allegations by the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that political thugs have been mobilised to the Osun State Government House ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

In a statement by its spokesman, Pelumi Olajengbesi, on Friday, the council described the allegation as false, irresponsible and unsubstantiated, saying it was reckless for the APC to make such claims on the eve of the August 15 election.

The council said Governor Ademola Adeleke respects the rule of law and promotes peace and democratic values, insisting that he would neither engage in criminality directly or through proxies nor allow thugs to operate from the Government House.

Olajengbesi described the APC’s allegation as “expired theatrics,” alleging that the party was making the claim because it was jittery over what he described as its “inevitable defeat” in Saturday’s election.

He further alleged that the APC House of Assembly candidate for Atakumosa East/West Local Government Area, Babatunde Festus Komolafe, was reportedly caught with a gun on Thursday.

He also alleged that a suspected APC thug, Asiri Eniba, was arrested with pump-action guns about two weeks ago, adding that both men were subsequently released by the police.

However, the council urged residents to disregard what it described as “reckless disinformation and senseless claims” by the APC and remain peaceful ahead of the election.

It also urged residents to turn out in large numbers on Saturday to vote for their preferred candidate, while calling on them to support Adeleke.
