‎Adeleke’s court suits responsible for delay in Osun LG allocations release — APC

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
‎
‎The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of misleading the public over local government allocations, dismissing claims that the Federal Government was withholding council funds.
‎
‎It insisted that court suits filed by the state government and its allies were responsible for the delay in releasing the allocations.
‎
‎Addressing a press conference on Wednesday in Osogbo, the APC Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, said the governor’s recent statewide broadcast on local government administration was based on misrepresentation and selective narration of facts.
‎
‎Lawal, whose address was delivered by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, alleged that the governor had consistently failed to disclose that his administration and its allies were currently engaged in multiple suits across different courts, including actions against commercial banks, expressly aimed at preventing the release of statutory allocations to the reinstated APC local government officials.
‎
‎“These litigations, not any act of the Federal Government, are the real impediments to the smooth flow of funds to the councils,” he said.
‎
‎He also rejected assertions that reinstated APC chairmen and councillors were illegally occupying local government secretariats, stating that their return followed a subsisting judgment of the Court of Appeal delivered on February 10, 2025, which nullified the basis for their earlier removal and remains unappealed.
‎
‎The APC also dismissed allegations of tenure elongation, explaining that the matter before the Federal High Court in Osogbo concerns the interpretation of the officials’ constitutionally guaranteed three-year tenure and the legality of conducting fresh elections while that tenure subsists.
‎
‎The APC chairman urged Adeleke to withdraw what it described as obstructive litigations, allow elected councils access to funds lawfully due to them, and refrain from rhetoric capable of deepening political tension in the state.
