Adeleke’s rumoured defection to APC sparks reactions in Osun

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
In the past 24 hours, political speculation has swept through Osun State over alleged plans by Governor Ademola Adeleke to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Although no official confirmation has been issued by either Governor Adeleke or the APC leadership, the rumour has sparked heated debate and strong reactions, particularly among APC and PDP loyalists on social media.
Governor Adeleke, who was elected under the PDP platform in 2022, has consistently denied any plans to leave the party. He has repeatedly reiterated his loyalty to the PDP, dismissing defection claims as unfounded.
Nevertheless, the rumour has stirred political tension, especially as Osun approaches the 2026 governorship election.
Among APC supporters, social media has become a battleground of opinions, with most voices expressing outright rejection of any attempt to welcome Adeleke into the party.
One user wrote: “The basic truth is that Osun PDP hates APC, and we also hate them with passion. It’s going to be an unholy alliance.”
Another added: “To cut the long story short, nothing like PDP again. Sit-at-home chairmen, what is your fate now? The man has sacrificed your struggle.”
The debate grew more intense as others within the APC community clashed over the implications of such a move. Responding to those who fear Adeleke would dominate the party if admitted, one user remarked:
“Many of you who believe Adeleke will join APC today and become the overall leader and dictate are newbies in the Nigerian political arena.”
However, a sharp rebuttal followed from another:
“If he joins, he will dictate. Governor of a state is the number one leader of the party. Don’t add ignorance to your disease.”
While some reject the idea entirely, others express concern over internal party hierarchy and loyalty.
However, until an official statement is made, Governor Adeleke remains a PDP member, and all defection talk remains speculative.
