Adetoun Onajobi denies evading litigation, further criticises Governor Dapo Abiodun
By Folashade Olorunfemi –
Prominent social welfare activist, Adetoun Onajobi, has continued her criticism of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, days after the state police command arraigned her before the Abeokuta High Court over alleged cyberbullying on social media.
The police filed six charges against her, stemming from videos she posted in December 2025 in which she accused the governor of negligence and described him as “a wicked governor who is more interested in impregnating women and looting funds than providing basic infrastructure for the state.”
Onajobi’s criticism followed the death of two friends of boxer Anthony Joshua in a fatal road accident, after which she alleged that the Ogun State Government lacked ambulances to rescue accident victims.
The police command claimed she declined its invitation on health grounds and submitted a fake medical report, leading to the arrest of the doctor who issued it. The doctor reportedly confessed that he issued the report without examining or treating the activist.
Responding on Instagram, Onajobi denied evading the police, stating that she acknowledged the summons and informed the command of her availability on January 27. She expressed surprise over a police statement issued on January 19 alleging that she had been avoiding them.
In her defence, she denied cyberbullying the governor, insisting she was speaking on behalf of the people of Ogun State, which she described as her state of origin, and said she prioritised good governance over politics.
She further alleged that unlike the aides of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who she claimed respond to public complaints, Governor Abiodun and his aides ignore residents’ concerns, accusing public officials of using the Cybercrime Law to suppress dissent.
In a series of remarks, Onajobi affirmed that citizens had the right to demand accountability from elected leaders, and insisted she would not be intimidated. “What legacy are you leaving? An uncompassionate man. What legacy have you left in six years, and what legacy are you living afterwards? Look at the condition of Ogun State. You now think I am politically motivated? I am speaking for my people, and my people do not need to like the way I speak,” she said.
