Adeyemi seeks independent probe of alleged PFIPC scandal in letter to Tinubu

Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew has called on President Bola Tinubu to establish an independent, multi-stakeholder panel to investigate the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal and a controversial ₦1.3 billion budget allocation linked to the 2026 Appropriation Act.
In an open letter dated July 13, 2026, Adeyemi commended the President for directing the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the matter but argued that the probe should be broadened to guarantee transparency and public confidence.
He claimed that the current framework could not ensure an impartial investigation, alleging that public attention had focused mainly on his arrest instead of the wider issues and individuals he said were central to the controversy.
Adeyemi also alleged that surrendering himself under the present arrangement would endanger his life, claiming he had received credible intelligence that he was being targeted for elimination. He further questioned the circumstances surrounding the reported death of Mr. Dolapo Babatunde Tanimola and the subsequent demolition of Kachi Hotel in Abuja, which he described as a key location connected to the case.
He said he had been forced to remain in an undisclosed location following what he described as attempts on his life and threats against his family.
“The moment this independent, multi-stakeholder panel is constituted, I will immediately step forward to present comprehensive documentation and verifiable evidences. A system cannot credibly investigate itself when its own key actors are central to the discourse”.
Adeyemi proposed that the panel include representatives of civil society organisations, the Nigerian Bar Association, independent media, international financial institutions, diplomatic missions, human rights organisations, as well as the ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He maintained that expanding the investigation would demonstrate the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, adding that he was prepared to fully cooperate and present evidence once such an independent panel was established.
