Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday assured Lagos residents that Phase Two of the Adiyan Water Works project will be completed within the next 10 to 12 months, providing a significant boost to the state’s water supply capacity.

Once completed, the project will supply 70 million gallons of water daily, addressing the growing demand for clean and reliable water in Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu made this commitment during a working visit to the Adiyan Water Works site, accompanied by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the progress of the ongoing construction, revealing that the project is currently 80% complete.

He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering determination to ensure the project’s timely completion before the end of his tenure.

“We remain committed to fulfilling our promise of providing Lagosians with better access to potable water,” Sanwo-Olu said during the visit.

He acknowledged the cooperation of residents in the areas surrounding the construction site, noting that their support has contributed significantly to the project’s smooth progress.

The governor assured that, upon completion, the Adiyan Water Works would vastly improve the socio-economic conditions of residents by enhancing their access to clean water, which, in turn, would improve their overall quality of life.

Sanwo-Olu also highlighted the government’s plans to further enhance the Independent Power Project (IPP) in Akute, which will provide a steady power supply to the waterworks, ensuring its efficient operation once completed.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving Lagos’ water supply infrastructure.

Wahab emphasized that providing residents with adequate pipe-borne water remains one of the administration’s key priorities.

He noted that the Adiyan Water Works project aligns with the state’s long-term vision of ensuring sustainable water access for Lagosians.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Water Corporation, Mukhtaar Tijani, expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s team for their continuous support and commitment to the project.

He assured that the contractor would complete the remaining work on schedule and within the stipulated timeline.

The Adiyan Water Works project, which began in 2013 and was initially awarded in 2012, will significantly reduce the water supply challenges faced by Lagosians. By adding 70 million gallons of water per day to the system, the project is expected to serve millions of residents across the state.

The completion of Phase Two will mark a crucial milestone in Lagos’ efforts to tackle water scarcity and improve the living standards of its growing population.
