Advert operators face sanctions as Oyo enforces signage rules

The Oyo State Government has announced plans to enforce regulations on illegal and unauthorized advertising structures across the state as part of a renewed debt recovery and regulatory compliance campaign.

This was disclosed by the Director-General of the Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OYSAA), Hon. Oludolapo Esho Ajanaku, during a recent briefing at the agency’s office.

According to Ajanaku, several outdoor advertising practitioners in the state have failed to comply with directives on revalidation and debt reconciliation. He stressed that all third-party practitioners must complete revalidation by July 11, 2025, and settle any outstanding debts by July 28, 2025.

He condemned the growing number of unauthorized electronic and outdoor advertisements across the state and warned that such structures would be removed as part of an aggressive enforcement campaign.

“All advertising practitioners and business owners with signage structures are advised to regularize their status with the agency by visiting the OYSAA office located on the 3rd Floor, Water Corporation Building, Secretariat, Ibadan,” he stated.

Ajanaku emphasized that the agency would no longer tolerate non-compliance, noting that violators risk stiff sanctions, including the removal of their billboards.

OYSAA had earlier launched a revalidation exercise to enhance regulatory oversight, ensure transparency, and improve service delivery in the advertising sector.

The initiative, according to the agency, is also aimed at creating a more business-friendly environment for legitimate advertisers operating in the state.
