AFCON: BUA chairman pledges $1m if Super Eagles win final

By Kunle Sanni –

Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has announced a major financial incentive for the Nigerian Super Eagles following their victory over Algeria at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Rabiu made the announcement in a post shared on his official Facebook account on Saturday, congratulating the Nigerian team for what he described as a “brilliant victory” against Algeria, a win he said lifted the spirit of the nation.

In the post, the billionaire industrialist pledged $500,000 to the players if they win their semi-final match, with an additional $50,000 for every goal scored.

He further promised $1 million should the Super Eagles go on to win the final, alongside a bonus of $100,000 for each goal scored in the final match.

“You have lifted the spirit of the nation, and we proudly cheer you on as you prepare for the semi-finals,” Rabiu wrote.

The post was accompanied by a photograph showing Rabiu watching the match on television and celebrating the goal with raised hands.

He also urged the players to continue making the country proud as they carry Nigeria forward in the competition.

Nigeria powered to a deserved 2-0 victory over Algeria in their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final with second-half strikes from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams, setting up a semi-final clash with hosts Morocco.
