AFCON: CAF fines Egypt for snubbing the media

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has slapped Egypt with a $5,000 fine for failing to engage with the media in the mixed zone after their opening match against Zimbabwe at AFCON 2025.

The Egyptian team’s players and technical staff walked past journalists without responding to post-match questions, violating CAF’s media obligations.

CAF has warned the Pharaohs that heavier sanctions will follow if they fail to speak to the media after their clash with South Africa today.

Media duties are a key part of tournament regulations, and CAF is emphasising the importance of transparency and fan engagement.
