AFCON Qualifiers: Super Eagles won’t underestimate Guinea-Bissau, says Chelle

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has said Nigeria will not underestimate Guinea-Bissau when both sides clash in Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Bissau.

Chelle acknowledged the strength of the Djurtus, who defeated Tanzania away from home on Friday, but said Nigeria’s target remains all three points.

“We respect them because they are a strong team. They also won away in Tanzania and will be confident playing at home,” Chelle said at Monday’s pre-match press conference.

“Our objective is to take the three points. We must approach the game with a strong mentality and be at our best to win.”

The Franco-Malian also dismissed concerns over the poor condition of the 24 September Stadium pitch, saying the Eagles would adapt to the terrain.

Nigeria trained for 65 minutes at the match venue on Monday evening, with all 24 players taking part.

The Super Eagles are seeking to build on their 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in their opening qualifier in Uyo.
