AFCON U-20: Lawmaker urges Flying Eagles to seal World Cup spot

Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has urged Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, to give their all in Monday’s quarter-final clash against Senegal at the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Amadu, in a statement on Sunday, called the match a “golden opportunity” for the team to qualify for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, as all four semi-finalists will represent Africa at the global tournament.
“The match against Senegal is more than a quarter-final; it’s a chance to fly the Nigerian flag on the world stage again. I urge the players to rise to the occasion and make the nation proud,” he said.
The Flying Eagles advanced to the knockout round unbeaten in Group B, after a 1-0 win over Tunisia and draws against Morocco (0-0) and Kenya (2-2). They now face a strong Senegalese side known for its physicality and discipline.
Amadu praised the team’s performance so far and reaffirmed the National Assembly’s support for youth sports development.
“Nigerians are fully behind you. We believe in your talent and determination. Qualifying for the World Cup will be a reward for your hard work and a unifying moment for the country,” he added.
The match will kick off at 5 p.m. local time. A win secures a semi-final spot and qualification for Chile 2025. Nigeria remains the most successful team in the competition with seven titles.
