AFCON: Unstoppable Super Eagles defeat Uganda 3–1

Nigeria made it three wins from three games as the Super Eagles defeated Uganda’s Cranes 3–1 in their final Group C match of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Already through to the next round before Tuesday’s match, the Eric Chelle-tutored side dominated much of the encounter, despite playing without a few key players such as goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, Ademola Lookman, skipper Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi.

Chelle handed starting shirts to Francis Uzoho in goal, as well as Igho Ogbu, Dele Bashiru, Bruno Onyemaechi, Paul Onuachu and Ryan Alebiosu, while Victor Osimhen was handed the captain’s armband.

Onuachu opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 28th minute, tapping in from close range, a lead the Nigerians took into the break.

Raphael Onyedika doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 62nd minute before adding the third in the 67th minute to make it 3–1 in the Super Eagles’ favour.

The Ugandans got their consolation goal in the 75th minute through Rogers Mato.

The win means the Super Eagles finished the preliminary stage with a perfect record, having won their first two matches 2–1 against Tanzania and 3–2 against Tunisia.
