Afenifere Ekiti disowns group over alleged impersonation, fraud

By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Ekiti State chapter of Afenifere has disowned a group laying claim to membership and leadership of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, describing it as fake and fraudulent.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the chapter’s Publicity Secretary, Biodun Akin-Fasae, the organisation said it is led by Elder Jonathan Yemi Alade, with Chief Mrs Ronke Okusanya as secretary.
The organisation accused another group, allegedly led by one Olayemi Olajuyinmi, of falsely parading itself as Afenifere members and exploiting the name of the body for personal and financial gain.
Afenifere said the individuals were not recognised by the Ekiti chapter, were not listed in its official register, and had no mandate to speak or act on its behalf.
The group stressed that the actions of the alleged impostors amounted to an attempt to hijack the reputation and goodwill built by Afenifere over the years.
Reaffirming its political position, the Ekiti chapter said it remains committed to its ideology and declared its affiliation with the All Progressives Congress, while openly supporting Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.
It added that it has no link with any other political party, including the African Democratic Congress, urging the public to ignore the claims of the group and disregard any statements credited to them.
