Afrobasket 2025: D’Tigress battle Cameroon for semi-final spot

By Tosin Omojola –
Nigeria’s D’Tigress will square up against rivals Cameroon in the quarter-final of the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket 2025, currently ongoing in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The Cameroonians defeated Angola 85-64 on Wednesday to book their quarter-final ticket, setting up a clash with the defending champions.
Both sides will take to the court on Thursday evening at precisely 10 p.m., at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, to fight for a place in the semi-final.
The Nigerians are aiming for a record fifth consecutive title in the championship—a feat that would see them become the first team, male or female, to achieve such dominance in Afrobasket history.
D’Tigress have already made a strong statement about their intent, recording a convincing 92-45 victory over Rwanda and a hard-fought 60-55 win against Mozambique in the group stage.
However, they are expected to face a stern test against a talented Cameroonian side in today’s quarter-final showdown.
The match carries added significance, as Cameroon remains the last team to defeat Nigeria at the Afrobasket.
In the 2015 semi-final, Cameroon edged Nigeria 71-70 in Yaoundé. Since then, Nigeria has embarked on an unbeaten run, claiming four consecutive Afrobasket titles and asserting their dominance on the continent.
