Afrobeats stars Ayra Starr and Wizkid have bagged awards at the 2026 MOBO Awards held at Co-op Live in Manchester on Thursday.
Representing Nigeria, Ayra Starr won Best International Act, a category that has become increasingly competitive as African artists command more global attention, while Wizkid was honoured with Best African Music Act.
The event, which was co-hosted by global hip-hop star Eve and comedian and broadcaster Eddie Kadi, also marked the 30th anniversary of the MOBO Organisation, making it one of the most significant ceremonies in the awards’ history.
Adding to the atmosphere, Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage performed live on stage alongside Olivia Dean. Other performances included a special MOBO Salutes: Grime 25 medley featuring Wiley, Chip, Scorcher, D Double E and Nolay, curated by DJ Target.
The MOBO Awards (Music of Black Origin), also known as the MOBOs, is Europe’s premier celebration of Black music and culture. Founded by Kanya King in 1996, it is held annually and honours achievements in music of Black origin, including hip hop, grime, UK drill, R&B, soul, reggae, jazz, gospel and other genres.
