AFUED debunks report linking graduates to Gombe-bound fatal crash

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, has refuted viral claims that some of its graduates posted to Gombe for NYSC were involved in a fatal accident.

In a statement signed by Olatuyi O. A. (Mrs), the Director of Information and Public Relations, the institution said the reports caused panic after spreading widely on social media on November 19.

The university explained that it immediately contacted security agencies, including the police and FRSC, as well as several media outlets, to verify the claims and establish the facts.

According to the statement, reprieve came when one of the corps members mentioned in the online posts was reached and confirmed that the crash she experienced occurred on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and not on the Bauchi–Gombe axis.

AFUED noted that The Punch newspaper also debunked the story in its November 21 edition, confirming that NYSC and FRSC recorded no such crash involving Gombe-bound corps members.

The institution expressed concern over the circulation of the misleading report and commended journalists, security agencies and individuals who sought verification and offered support during the investigation.

It urged the public to disregard the claim, describing it as fake news, and advised media practitioners to uphold accuracy and professionalism at all times.
