Again, 36 Lagos Lawmakers reject Obasa, reaffirm Meranda as Speaker

Thirty-Six members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday reaffirmed their rejection of the removed Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, despite his forceful entry into the Assembly complex.

Addressing journalists at Assembly Complex, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information and Strategy, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe (Oshodi/Isolo 1), flanked by other lawmakers, expressed deep dissatisfaction with the unfolding events, calling on party leaders to provide clarity on the situation.

“This is Lagos, and this is the Lagos State House of Assembly,” Ogundipe stated.

“We have been approached by our leaders, and we should remain calm and patient until they engage with us. However, we are shocked by what is happening today.”he added.

Ogundipe emphasized that lawmakers remained law-abiding but demanded respect for their mandates.

He decried the manner in which the crisis was being handled, describing the situation as embarrassing and unacceptable.

It would be recalled that the 36 lawmakers on February 17 passed vote of confidence in Speaker Mojisola Meranda, daring all consequences.
