Nollywood faith-based film Agbara Nla has continued to record box office success, grossing ₦354.5 million since its release in cinemas on October 1.
The milestone was announced by the film’s distributor, Nile Entertainment, in a celebratory post on its social media pages on Tuesday. The company disclosed that the movie, alongside two others, occupied the top three positions at the Nigerian weekend box office.
The three films generated a combined ₦92.61 million, representing 58.9 per cent of the weekend’s total box office earnings, while Nile Entertainment’s entire slate accounted for 68 per cent.
According to the distributor, Agbara Nla: The Return, a remake of the 1993 classic Agbara Nla by Mount Zion Film Productions, also recorded an opening weekend gross of $120,660 in selected cinemas in the United Kingdom and Canada following its international distribution in Europe.
The development followed several milestones recorded by the film, including the biggest Nollywood release of 2026, the biggest opening weekend for a Nollywood film, the biggest pre-sales for a Nollywood film and the biggest-ever faith-based Nollywood film.
The distributor attributed the film’s performance to a marketing campaign that combined nostalgia for the original production with efforts to attract a new generation of viewers. Directed by Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Mike-Bamiloye, the film is a collaborative production of Mount Zion Film Productions, Sozo Films and Circuits.
Meanwhile, Nile Entertainment said Street Fighter and The Other Mummy, both released in cinemas on October 16, were promoted through campaigns tailored to their respective audiences. The company added that the three films demonstrated its approach to marketing productions based on their genres and audience appeal.
Nile Entertainment’s General Manager, Nowe Segun-Ojo, said the company’s performance reflected its distribution strategy since it began operations in August 2024. “Having three of our titles occupy the top three positions is an encouraging milestone for a relatively young company,” he said.
