Agege APC affirms Hamzat as Lagos governorship candidate

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Agege Chapter, on Thursday held its governorship primary at the Agege Stadium in Lagos, where party members and stakeholders gathered in large numbers to endorse the incumbent Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
During a call-and-response session with party supporters, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt (Hon) Mudashiru Obasa, asked attendees to identify the House of Assembly candidates they voted for in the APC primary exercise on Tuesday, prompting chants of “Egunjobi” and “Ninalowo” across the venue.
Reacting to the outcome of the primaries, Obasa said the exercise was conducted in line with the party’s guidelines and reflected the collective decision of APC members in the area.
He affirmed that Hamzat had emerged as the party’s governorship candidate, while Idiat Adebule was adopted as the APC candidate for Lagos West Senatorial District.

The Speaker also confirmed himself as the party’s candidate for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, insisting that the decisions reached during the primaries enjoyed the backing of party stakeholders and members across the constituency.
Obasa praised party loyalists in Agege for their participation and commitment to the APC, stressing that active involvement in party activities remained a key requirement for membership and leadership within the party structure.
He further dismissed allegations of irregularities surrounding the primaries, maintaining that the exercise was conducted openly in the presence of security agencies, the media and party leaders.
Obasa said that anyone dissatisfied with the outcome of the election should seek legal redress, reiterating that Agege remained one of the most organised political structures within the state.
