Aggrieved Mende occupants can approach Control Appeals committee- LASG

Lagos State Government on Wednesday said aggrieved occupants of Mende Villa Estate , Maryland whose houses were recently demolished can approach the Control Appeals committee if they feel treated unfairly.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, made this known when he briefed the press on the success of the ministry in the last one year since Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was sworn in into office for the second term.


In his address Olumide said those whose houses were destroyed in Mende Villa Estate do not have a title “ Regarding Mende Villa Estate Maryland, if you feel you are unfairly treated, approach the Appeals committee set up by the Lagos State Government which was set as an interface between the Government and the people.

” Do Mende Villa Estate occupants whose houses were demolished have a title? The Commissioner for the Environment asked them and they couldn’t answer the question. If you have approval, approach the Appeals committee, if you don’t have a title , you cannot have a building approval.”


On 80 percent of buildings around ibeju-Lekki axis and Epe corridor which do not have government approval, Olumide noted that most of the land in that area were earmarked as Agricultural land but over the years the government saw a need to create roads so as to link more communities together.

He emphasized that Estate Developers in Ibeju Lekki axis do not have development plan.


“ The area is Agricultural land. People move there to buy from families . The developers in Ibeju Lekki axis do not have title Estate Developers in Ibeju Lekki axis do not have development plan.’


During the press briefing, Olumide said the Kosofe model city plan which runs from 2020 to 2040 was awarded August 2020. He also noted that from January 2019 to April 2024 ,236 Application for both public and private Estates were registered,133 was approved and 29 hasn’t received final approval.


On building planning permits, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development said within the period under review a total of 5,961 planning permits was granted out of the 8,042 applications representing a 74.1 percent.


“ We hope to enhance planning permit applications and fast -track the approval process through many initiatives that we have introduced including sustained public enlightenment and sensitisation programme, the amnesty programme and 40 percent rebate to civil servants.”
