AGN suspends actress Shirley Igwe over alleged assault on crew member

By Tosin Brown –

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has indefinitely suspended Nollywood actress Shirley Igwe following an alleged assault on a crew member during a film production.

According to multiple reports, Igwe allegedly slapped a member of the Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria (CDGN) while on set, prompting swift disciplinary action from the AGN leadership.

The guild confirmed that the suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation into the incident.

In an official statement issued to all state chapter chairmen and the national executive council, the AGN described the measure as necessary due to “violent and undisciplined actions capable of discrediting the acting profession.”

The AGN further directed all members to immediately cease participation in any film production involving Shirley Igwe until further notice.

“Members are hereby directed to refrain from participating in any film production involving her,” the statement read.

As of the time of filing this report, Igwe has not publicly responded to the allegations or her suspension.
