Agribusiness giant ETG plans multi-million-dollar investments in Nigeria, targets 6,000 jobs

By Kunle Sanni –

African agribusiness giant Export Trading Group (ETG) is set to expand its operations in Nigeria with a multi-million-dollar investment portfolio expected to create more than 6,000 jobs, company officials said.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who received the ETG delegation at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, praised the planned investments and assured the conglomerate of the federal government’s commitment to securing and supporting their operations.

“You have been in the country since 2010, but this time around you have decided to play a more active role in Nigeria’s agricultural value chain. This is where the action is,” the Vice President said, noting opportunities in seed development, fertiliser blending, oil processing, and agricultural extension services.

He encouraged ETG to leverage Nigeria’s vast resources and population to scale its operations and boost national food production.

ETG’s Global Chief Operating Officer, Niren Murugan, said the company’s visit aimed to align with government priorities and strengthen engagement with public-sector stakeholders.

Murugan announced that an expanded oil processing facility in Sagamu, Ogun State, will become operational by the second quarter of 2026. He also highlighted ongoing and planned investments in fertiliser blending, seed production, and integrated agro-logistics.

The company is additionally partnering with state governments to establish Centres of Agro-Excellence in seven states—Kaduna, Ebonyi, Cross River, Ekiti, Jigawa, Nasarawa, and Borno. These hubs will support mechanisation, input distribution, storage, and primary processing.

Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, who attended the meeting, said the state is ready to collaborate with ETG to unlock its agricultural potential, highlighting ongoing reforms aimed at boosting productivity and enhancing the state’s contribution to national food security.
