Aide to Ondo senator resigns over ₦20,000 monthly pay

Tunbosun Awe, a political aide to Senator Olajide Ipinsagba representing Ondo North Senatorial District, has tendered his resignation, citing poor remuneration and economic hardship.

Awe, who served as the ward liaison officer for Isowopo Ward II in Akoko North-East Local Government Area, said his monthly salary of ₦20,000 was no longer sustainable, especially in light of Nigeria’s current economic realities and the newly proposed ₦70,000 minimum wage.

In his resignation letter issued in Akure, Awe lamented that the amount remained the same as what he earned when he served as Senator Ipinsagba’s personal assistant in 2007.

He revealed that several appeals made to the senator for a salary review were ignored, adding that the continued neglect had made it difficult for him to carry out his responsibilities effectively.

Awe also expressed disappointment that his years of loyalty and service had not translated into improved welfare. He recalled his role as secretary of Senator Ipinsagba’s 2006 senatorial campaign, “Concept 2007,” and his subsequent position as personal assistant during Ipinsagba’s time in the administration of the late Governor Olusegun Agagu.

Efforts by Western Post to obtain a comment from the senator’s media aide, Yinka Ajagunna, were unsuccessful as of press time.
