Aiyedatiwa celebrates pa Fasoranti at 99, urges revival of Yoruba culture

The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has described Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti as a rare symbol of patriotism, courage, and integrity whose life of selfless service remains a guiding light for generations of Nigerians.
Governor Aiyedatiwa made the remarks on Saturday in Akure at the second edition of the Chief Reuben Fasoranti Public Service Lecture, organised by the University of Ibadan Alumni Association, Ondo State Chapter, in honour of the elder statesman’s 99th birthday.
Speaking at the Federal University of Technology’s Multi-Purpose Auditorium, the Governor extolled Fasoranti’s virtues, noting that his life reflects the Yoruba Omoluabi ethos. “What we are celebrating here today is not just the number. It is the life in the years of an elder statesman who has exemplified service, courage, conviction and devotion to humanity throughout his life,” he said.

Governor Aiyedatiwa commended the decision to hold a public lecture in Fasoranti’s honour, citing his longstanding contributions to education, culture, and leadership in Nigeria. He also reflected on the lecture’s theme, calling it a timely intervention on the urgent need to revive declining Yoruba values.
The Governor warned against the steady erosion of Yoruba traditions and urged a renewed focus on cultural education and intergenerational dialogue. He pledged his administration’s support for initiatives that promote Yoruba heritage and empower the youth to carry it forward.
Delivering the lecture, former Ogun State Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel called for unity among the Yoruba people to safeguard their cultural identity. He emphasized the need for renewed engagement in education, politics, and community development as a pathway to cultural preservation.

Other dignitaries at the event included the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Adebowale (represented by Registrar G.O. Saliu); UIAA Ondo State Chairman, Mr. Yinka Akinola; and Chief Host, Basorun Seinde Arogbofa. Each paid glowing tribute to Chief Fasoranti’s legacy and leadership.
Also present were the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye; the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi; and top government officials including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, and Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa.
