Aiyedatiwa didn’t snub Alaafin – Governor’s aide clarifies trending video

The Ondo State Government has dismissed reports suggesting that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa snubbed the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Adeyemi Owoade I, at a recent social event.
A statement on Sunday by the governor’s Special Assistant on New Media, Mr Sunday Abire, described the claim as a misinterpretation of a short video trending online. He said the governor, known for his humility and respect for traditional rulers, would never disrespect any royal father.
Abire said Aiyedatiwa, who has maintained cordial relations with monarchs across Ondo State for over three years, “has never disrespected any crown but continues to show love, honour, and support to traditional rulers.”
He noted that the governor had previously approved special requests from the state’s Council of Obas and built a fully equipped secretariat for their use, describing this as proof of his regard for the traditional institution.
“The Governor has no rift with the revered Kabiyesi and couldn’t have snubbed him like most netizens suggested. It is not even in the culture of Governor Aiyedatiwa to snub people, let alone a king,” the statement added.
Abire maintained that those circulating the video were “only trying to drag the Governor into unnecessary controversy”, insisting that Aiyedatiwa remains a peaceful, respectful, and responsible leader.
“If he hasn’t snubbed any king in Ondo State, why should he do that in Oyo State, where he has no stake at all?” Abire queried.
