Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Wednesday met with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governor’s Advisory Council and other party leaders as the party began a reconciliation process following its recent primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Akure, reaffirmed Aiyedatiwa as the leader of the APC in Ondo State. Party leaders also pledged their support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027 and resolved to strengthen internal unity while preserving the party’s progressive ideals.

Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council, Chief Pius Akinyelure, said the gathering was the council’s first meeting since the party primaries. He said the meeting reflected the commitment of party leaders to reconcile aggrieved members, resolve differences and position the APC for future electoral success.

According to Akinyelure, political disagreements are inevitable in a democratic setting but should be addressed through dialogue, mutual respect, sacrifice and selflessness. He urged party members to remain united as preparations for future elections gather momentum.

He also called on party leaders and government officials to work together to surpass the state’s performance in the 2023 presidential election, when Ondo recorded one of the highest vote percentages for Tinubu. Akinyelure commended Aiyedatiwa’s administration and assured the governor of the council’s continued support.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Akinyelure said party leaders unanimously endorsed Aiyedatiwa as the APC leader in the state. He added that discussions also focused on issues affecting the party and measures to further strengthen unity and internal cohesion.

Former Senator representing Ondo North, Ajayi Boroffice, said the leaders resolved to rally behind the governor and intensify efforts toward Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He added that the party would engage its national leadership to reaffirm its support and communicate the resolutions reached at the meeting.

The APC South-West Vice Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, said more than 30 party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Tinubu’s second-term bid. He added that the meeting agreed all APC support groups in Ondo State should operate under the leadership of Governor Aiyedatiwa, while urging the party’s national leadership to carry all critical stakeholders along in decisions affecting the state.
