Aiyedatiwa orders urgent repairs on Akure–Idanre road after outcry

The Ondo State Government has begun emergency palliative work on the Akure–Idanre (Oke Aro) Road, barely 48 hours after Prophet Samson Oluwamodede decried its deplorable state.
Commuters expressed relief on Saturday as contractors returned to the site with heavy equipment to fix failed sections of the road, which links several communities in Akure South Local Government Area.
The development followed a viral video in which Prophet Oluwamodede, founder of the Prayer Centre Church of God (PCCG), described the road as a “death trap” and urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to intervene.
“Mr Governor, you remember there was a time I called your attention to how bad this road is, and you promised to contact your Special Adviser on Infrastructure. But the situation is now worse,” the cleric said.
A contractor on site, who spoke anonymously, confirmed that work resumed after the governor directed immediate repairs to ease the suffering of motorists and residents.
Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Mr Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, attributed the delay to persistent rainfall, explaining that the project had achieved over 8,000 metres of lined drains out of the 10-kilometre stretch.
Governor Aiyedatiwa had in April flagged off the dualisation of the Akure–Idanre Road, designed to ease traffic flow and boost commerce with solar-powered streetlights and modern drainage systems.
