Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Wednesday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state during the presentation of the staff of office to the pioneer traditional ruler of Oke-Oro in Akoko North-West Local Government Area.
The governor presented the instrument of appointment to Oba Olanrewaju Olawoye Adeyemi as the Owa Adimula of Oke-Oro at a ceremony attended by government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders and residents.
Aiyedatiwa said his administration had continued to strengthen the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, as well as other security agencies through improved funding, logistics and manpower support to tackle insecurity in different parts of the state.
He called on traditional rulers to work closely with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence capable of preventing criminal activities within their communities.
The governor also announced the official renaming of the community from Oke Irun to Oke-Oro, describing the recognition of the traditional stool as a significant milestone in the history of the community.
According to him, the Ondo State Executive Council approved the Oke-Oro Chieftaincy Declaration on April 14, 2026, after what he described as a careful review of the community’s request in line with the provisions of the Ondo State Chieftaincy Law.
Aiyedatiwa, however, cautioned the monarch against abusing the powers attached to the throne, urging him to use the stool to promote peace, unity and harmonious coexistence among the people and neighbouring communities.
In his remarks, Oba Adeyemi thanked the governor for approving the stool and facilitating his installation, describing the development as a historic achievement for the people of Oke-Oro. The monarch also conferred the traditional title of Lisa Jigan of Oke-Oro on Governor Aiyedatiwa in appreciation of his support for the community.
