Aiyedatiwa reveals criteria for picking APC candidates ahead of 2027 general election

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Friday said candidates of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 general election would emerge based on merit, loyalty, and winnability.

The governor made the statement during the APC Central Senatorial District stakeholders’ meeting held in Akure, where he cautioned aspirants against desperation and do-or-die politics.

He urged party members to remain united and committed to the collective goal of securing victory in the forthcoming elections.

Aiyedatiwa also set a target of one million votes for President Bola Tinubu in Ondo State, emphasising the need for sustained grassroots mobilisation.

Speaking on the selection process, the governor explained that it would commence with the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms, followed by screening, appeals, and either direct primaries or consensus arrangements.

“It is not a do-or-die affair; if you are not chosen, do not rock the boat. Remain in the party, and one day, opportunity will come,” he advised.

He further cautioned aspirants against defecting after losing party tickets, recalling that he once lost a senatorial bid but remained loyal until he was given another opportunity.

In his remarks, APC State Chairman Babatunde Kolawole reaffirmed the governor as the party leader in the state and urged aspirants to accept party decisions with maturity while remaining loyal.
