Aiyedatiwa’s aide accuses policewoman of taking bribes from motorists

The Ondo State Governor’s Special Adviser on Transport Olumuyiwa Ogunyemi has accused a policewoman of allegedly collecting money from motorists in exchange for allowing illegal roadside parking along Arakale Road in Akure.

Ogunyemi reportedly confronted the officer during a traffic inspection on Thursday, accusing her of permitting motorists to violate traffic regulations in exchange for unauthorised payments. The confrontation centred on roadside parking along the busy road, which the governor’s aide said was contributing to traffic congestion.

The aide disclosed the incident in a video shared on his Facebook page, where he raised concerns about practices that undermine traffic management efforts in the state. He said allowing motorists to park illegally obstructed the free movement of vehicles and worsened congestion along the road.

During the encounter, Ogunyemi said he intervened and warned the policewoman about the need to enforce traffic regulations. He stressed that public officers responsible for maintaining order on the roads should not engage in practices that encourage motorists to disregard traffic rules.

According to the governor’s aide, indiscriminate roadside parking disrupts traffic flow, causes unnecessary gridlock and creates difficulties for commuters. He maintained that ensuring compliance with traffic regulations was essential to keeping major roads accessible and reducing avoidable delays for road users.

Ogunyemi reaffirmed the Ondo State Government’s commitment to improving traffic management under Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. He also warned that practices capable of undermining road safety and causing hardship for commuters would not be tolerated.

“Our commitment to keeping Ondo State roads safe, organised, and completely traffic-free under the leadership of our governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, is firm and absolute,” he said.

However, Ogunyemi did not identify the policewoman or disclose whether the allegation had been formally reported to the police authorities for investigation.
