A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has commended party members nationwide following what he described as a decisive intervention by the party’s Board of Trustees after a recent Supreme Court judgment.
In a statement issued on Friday, Ajadi endorsed the move by the Board of Trustees to assume leadership, describing it as a timely step aimed at preventing a leadership vacuum and repositioning the party for stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He noted that the development presents an opportunity for members to move beyond internal divisions and work towards reconciliation in the broader interest of the party and the country.
“I sincerely congratulate all members of our great party at this critical moment,” he said. “The decision of the Board of Trustees to assume constitutional leadership is not only timely but necessary to stabilise the party and restore confidence among members nationwide,” the aspirant added.
Furthermore, Ajadi urged aggrieved stakeholders to respect the position of the Board of Trustees and support its plan to convene an emergency National Executive Committee meeting, which is expected to pave the way for the emergence of an interim National Working Committee.
He emphasised that the party’s immediate priority should be to build a credible structure recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, enabling it to field candidates across all positions in the 2027 elections.
“What matters now is unity of purpose,” Ajadi noted, stressing that the Board of Trustees must be fully supported to carry out its constitutional responsibilities, including the formation of the National Executive Committee and an interim National Working Committee.
Ajadi also called on party leaders, governors, lawmakers, and other stakeholders to rally behind ongoing reconciliation efforts, noting that the party must learn from its internal challenges and emerge stronger, more united, and better prepared to deliver democratic dividends.
