Ajaero: He who come to equity must come with clean hands, by Kola Amzat

Recently, detachment of the nation security team spearheaded by the Police Authority stormed NLC Headquarters in Abuja.

Their mission was to apprehend a suspected terrorist allegedly been harbored on the second floor of the NLC complex.

The suspect was alleged to have orchestrated over the years, death of many Nigerians particularly in the South East Geo-Political zone with his inflammatory and very inciting pronouncements from abroad where he’s based, as well as continually projecting Nigeria image abroad negatively with  reckless, treasonably, uncomplimentary and unguarded pronouncements.

Even though, as we speak, the police authority have not disclosed the name of the suspect, but, they’ve invited the president of Nigeria Labour Congress for questioning, on account of very incriminating, indicting and damning correspondence they claimed they scooped from the second floor of the Labour complex, which evidently linked him to the terrorist’s activities.

Meanwhile, the Police Authority Act grants the force express mandate to invade any office in the land whatsoever, for the purpose of carrying out their constitutionally assigned responsibility.

It’s therefore not out of place for them to have invaded the NLC office in their quest to arrest the suspected terrorist, as well as made away with any documents they’re convinced would assist in their investigation.

It’s also not out of order to invite the President of the body for questioning, at least to prove his innocence or otherwise on the allegation of culpability he’s alleged by the police.

What the Nigerians of discerning minds except him to do is honour the invitation with a view to defending himself, and justifying why he shouldn’t be linked with the terrorist.

But, it’s most unfortunate that Comrade Ajaero and his EXCO members have opted to make a big issue out of the whole thing.

Labour leadership have decided to throw the entire country into confusion and apprehension simply because of letter of invite from the Police Authority to their president.

They’ve resolved to place workers across the country on red-alert with a view to trooping out in protest and work boycott, if Ajaero is detained by police, particularly if he is truly and indeed found culpable in colluding and conniving with the suspect in the alleged act of terrorism.

Are they inferring that the labour leader is above the laws of the land?

Are they inferring that he’s at liberty to conduct himself in a way and manner that is injurious and inimical to the laws of the land?

The way and manner that the labour leadership have gone about the whole issue clearly suggested that, they indeed have some things to hide.

Does Ajaero opined that the office he occupies gives him liberty and freedom to involve himself in treasonable acts, and security team would just be looking other ways, because he’s the President of Labour movement?

Is he equally aware that it’s only the president and governors of 36 states who enjoy immunity from constitution; not even, Senate President, Speaker of House of Representatives and other national assembly members?

It’s an auspicious time for Ajaero to come down from his high horses, embrace and hug humility, and stop deploying the office of NLC presidency to settle personal scores with the government, its agencies and security forces.

Nigerians vividly recall that it’s the same Ajaero that got himself practically ENMESHED and in unnecessary struggles with security agencies in Owerri at beginning of this year, where hoodlums thoroughly rough-handled him and subjected him to serious beating like a criminal, a development that almost extinct him.

Suffice to submit that his tenure as NLC president has been uneventful, riotous, very disruptive and destructive and by this writer’s opinion, counter-productive.

Nigeria Labour Congress is created to advance the cause of workers across the federation, as well as tactfully, constructively, and strategically defend the workers interests with a view to making them stakeholders in the Nigerian project, and, more importantly, collaborate with the government to build a prosperous and developed country.

It’s not for NLC leadership to continually pitch the workers across the country against the government, through continual incitement and casting doubts and aspersions on the leadership of government.

Is it not the same NLC platform Comrade Adams Oshiomole deployed to be Governor of Edo State, National APC Chairman and now Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?

Is it not the same NLC office late Paschal Bafyau deployed to almost become the Vice President of this country?

Of course, the immediate past NLC president, Mr. Wabba was an embodiment of maturity, decorum, knowledge and decency in office!

Comrade Ajaero MUST change his ways, if he want to earn respect and honour.

Of course, this is not how to lead labour movement of a country with vibrant and vast population of about 230-240 million people and the largest black nation in the world.

He is advised to promptly honour the letter of invite of Police Authority, and if he has to be detained and even, charged for culpability in terrorism, so be it!

Heaven would not fall because of Ajaero!
