Akanu Ibiam International Airport to reopen April 28 after runway repairs

The Federal Government has announced that Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Enugu State, will reopen for flight operations on Monday, April 28, 2025, following the completion of emergency runway repairs.

In a statement signed on Saturday by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed that the rehabilitation work had been successfully completed ahead of schedule.

The airport runway was initially closed on April 18, 2025, after a sudden and significant rupture was discovered on a critical section of the asphalt surface.

Emergency repair work began on April 22 and was originally scheduled to conclude by May 6, 2025. However, FAAN engineers have now cleared the runway for safe landings and takeoffs.

FAAN expressed appreciation to airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during the period of closure.

The Authority apologized for any inconvenience caused, emphasizing that all actions taken were in the interest of public safety.
