Akeredolu fails to resume today, says he’s getting better

Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu failed to resume today as earlier scheduled in the letter he sent to the state House of Assembly.

In the letter which was read by the Speaker of the House during the plenary, the governor had informed the lawmakers that he was proceeding on a 21-day leave for medical treatment abroad starting from June 7.

Akeredolu, in the letter, had transmitted power to the deputy governor who would be acting in his capacity until his return on July 6 (today).

But in a swift turn of events, there are indications that the governor wouldn’t be resuming today, as he has said he would only return when his doctor certifies him okay to return.

In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju on Thurday, Akeredolu thanked the people of the state and the country at large for their prayers and support.

According to the statement, the governor was feeling better and in high spirits.
On his resumption, Ademola Olateju said Akeredolu would “join the people of the state as soon as his doctors consider it expedient.”

The statement reads: “The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, expresses his profound gratitude to the good people of Ondo State for the ceaseless evocation of prayers and messages of goodwill for his full recovery and return to good health, soon.

“This unprecedented display of genuine affection and solidarity have been a soothing balm and the reinvigorating elixir sustaining the determination, not only for the amiable Governor to stand on his feet, but also, and more importantly, for him to continue his service to the people, particularly the good people of Ondo State.

“The Governor thanks the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and members of his team, all party leaders, his brother Governors and the members of the State House of Assembly for their support.
