Akpabio announces appointment of senate special committees, chairpersons

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio announced on Tuesday the appointment of the Chairman and members of various Special Committees in the Senate.

The Senate Selection Committee, composed of the Presiding Officer and Principal Officers of the Upper Chamber, includes Senators Godswill Akpabio, Barau Jibrin, Opeyemi Bamidele, Ali Ndume, Dave Umahi, and Lola Ashiru.

Senators Simon Mwadkwon, Oyewumi Olarere, Darlington Nwokeocha, and Rufai Hanga have been appointed as members of the committee.

Senator Akpabio disclosed the Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen of the other Special Committees of the Senate. Senator Titus Zam has been named Chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Business, with Senator Opeyemi Bamidele serving as vice chairman.

Senator Sunday Karimi has been appointed Chairman of the Committee on Senate Services, while Senator Williams Jonah will assume the role of vice chairman.

Other appointments include Senator Okechukwu Ezea as Chairman and Khalid Mustapha as vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions. Senator Ahmed Wadada will serve as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, alongside Senator Onyeka Peter Nwebonyi as vice chairman.

Senator Shehu Umar has been designated Chairman of the Committee on National Security and Intelligence, with Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong as vice chairman. Senator Garba Musa Maidoki will lead the Senate Committee on Legislative Compliance, with Senator Ede Dafinone serving as vice chairman. Senator Adaramodu Adeyemi Raphael has been named Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, accompanied by Senator Salisu Shuaibu Afolabi as vice chairman.

In anticipation of the possibility of receiving a Supplementary Appropriation Bill, the Selection Committee has established a committee on Appropriations as per Senate Standing Orders 95(b) as amended. Senator Solomon Adeola has been appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, and Senator Ali Ndume will assume the position of vice chairman.
