Akpabio says opposition will allege rigging if Tinubu wins re-election in 2027

Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday said opposition political parties would likely accuse President Bola Tinubu of rigging the 2027 presidential election if he secures a second term, urging supporters of the President to remain focused on voter mobilisation ahead of the polls.
Akpabio made the remarks while receiving members of the City Boy Movement, a pro-Tinubu political support group, during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
Addressing the delegation, the Senate President described the movement as a growing political force capable of strengthening the President’s electoral support nationwide.
“The City Boy Movement is like a wind blowing across the nation. You may not see it, but you can feel it. Every political party in Nigeria is already feeling the impact of the City Boy Movement,” Akpabio said.
He said the group would help ensure the ruling All Progressives Congress has representatives in every polling unit during the next general election.
“Never again shall we have a situation in any polling unit in Nigeria where Mr. President will not have an agent because we have the City Boy Movement. In the last election, if your movement had existed, many of our votes that were not counted in many polling units would have been counted,” he said.
Akpabio urged members of the movement to intensify grassroots mobilisation and voter education ahead of the 2027 elections, arguing that other political parties were not making similar efforts.
“When the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be announced, you will hear people saying it is rigged. That they did this, they did that. Ignore all those things and remain focused,” he said.
