Akume compares Tinubu’s leadership to Lee Kuan Yew’s at APC National Summit

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has drawn parallels between President Bola Tinubu’s leadership style and that of Singapore’s founding father, Lee Kuan Yew.
He praised the Nigerian president’s reform-driven governance and bold policy decisions since taking office in 2023.
Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit in Abuja on Thursday, Akume described Tinubu’s administration as visionary and committed to national transformation, despite growing public discontent over economic challenges.
“In just two years, we have witnessed impactful decisions, strategic reforms, and a firm commitment to national development,” Akume said. “President Tinubu’s leadership reminds us of the legendary Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore — a man whose foresight, discipline, and resolve turned a small nation into a global model of prosperity and order. This is the calibre of leadership Nigeria is fortunate to have today.”
Lee Kuan Yew, widely regarded as the architect of modern Singapore, served as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1990. His leadership, anchored in meritocracy, discipline, and long-term planning, is credited with transforming Singapore from a struggling port city into one of the world’s most advanced economies.
Akume also highlighted the growing popularity of the APC, attributing recent political gains to the party’s commitment to reforms rather than campaign rhetoric.
“Nigerians are joining the APC not just because of promises, but because they are seeing tangible results and a renewed sense of direction,” he said.
The summit brought together top party leaders and stakeholders to assess progress under the Renewed Hope Agenda and to discuss strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
