Akure airport dwarfs Ibadan in passenger inflow in 2021

The Air Transportation Data Report released by the National Bureau of Statistics has shown that the Akure Airport had more passengers than the Ibadan Airport.

The Data which was published by NBS on Wednesday, showed that the Akure Airport was the second with the most passengers in the South West behind the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

The Akure Airport was also the 13th busiest in the country, ahead of Jos, Kaduna and Katsina airports.

A total of 55,656 passengers arrived at the Akure Airport in the year under review, while another 57,969 passengers departing the airport for various destinations.

The breakdown shows that the fourth quarter was the busiest for the Akure Airport, with 20,751 passengers arriving and another 20,895 departing.

This was followed by the third quarter with 13,155 arrivals and 14,384 departures, while the second quarter had 11,721 departures and 12,648 arrivals.

The first quarter came in last with 10,029 departures and 10,042 arrivals.

The report also places the Ibadan Airport as the second least used airport in Nigeria, only ahead of the Kaduna Airport.

In 2021, a total of 25,777 passengers arrived at the Ibadan Airport, while 25, 395 passengers departed from the airport.

According to the breakdown, 4,983 passengers arrived the Ibadan Airport in the first quarter, 5,982 in the second quarter, 6,919 in the third quarter and  7,813 in the fourth quarter, while 4,684 passengers departed from the airport in the first quarter, 5,823 in the second quarter, 7,110 in the third quarter and 7,78 passenger in the fourth quarter.

Three airlines; Air Peace, Overland Airways and Green Africa operate at the Akure Airport, with all of them flying the Lagos and Abuja routes, while Green Africa also goes to Owerri, Imo State.

The Ibadan Airport however has flight to the Abuja and Lagos routes through Air Peace and Overland.
