Akure experiences first rainfall of 2026 after weeks of heat

Residents of Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Thursday experienced the first rainfall of the year, bringing relief and excitement after weeks of intense heat.

The light rain was recorded in several parts of the city, including Oke Aro, Roadblock, Oloko, Orita Obele and Oke Odu, among others.

Some residents described the rainfall as refreshing, saying it signalled the beginning of a new season.

A resident, Mrs Jayeola, said the experience was uplifting, describing the rain as a sign of renewal and hope for the year.

Another resident, Mr Adeleke, welcomed the development, noting that the rainfall eased the harsh weather conditions and brought comfort.

It was gathered that the rainfall was mild and accompanied by a cool breeze across parts of the metropolis.

Many residents expressed gratitude for the relief, expressing hope for a steady and favourable rainy season in the months ahead.
